App Store creative assets: sizes, formats and a useful export checklist
Prepare separate header and search artwork, check the current technical requirements, and know what still needs human review.
App Store creative assets give your app more visual room in eligible product page headers and search results. They have their own specifications. Start by checking whether the feature is available for your app in App Store Connect; creating a file does not establish eligibility.
The two placements need separate compositions
A header is wide. A search visual has a 3:2 ratio. A headline that works in the header can become too small, crowded or awkwardly cropped in search. Share your app identity between the files, then adjust the copy and screenshot placement independently.
These are the specifications we checked on October 7, 2026:
| Placement | Image | Video |
|---|---|---|
| Product page header | 3840 × 1646 pixels; JPEG or PNG; no alpha | 3840 × 1646 pixels |
| Search results | 3:2; from 1920 × 1280 to 3840 × 2560; JPEG or PNG; no alpha | The same ratio and pixel range |
| Universal image | 5244 × 2950 pixels; PNG | No universal video preset |
For the two video placements, Apple lists MOV, M4V or MP4, a duration of 5 to 30 seconds, and 30 or 60 frames per second. Search playback stays muted. A header starts muted and may be unmuted. Both placements loop.
Always compare your files with Apple’s live creative assets specifications before submitting. Requirements can change.
What this editor exports
The image generator downloads two opaque JPEG files: a header and a search composition at the minimum supported search size. The video generator exports two muted H.264 MP4 files at 30 fps. Each ZIP includes a manifest describing the output dimensions and source background.
AI source dimensions and final file dimensions describe different things. Resizing a background makes the file larger, but it does not recover detail that the source never contained. Use the manifest and inspect the actual image at full size.
Review the creative, then check the file
Open both files independently. Read every line of copy, look at the real app screenshot and check the edges. Avoid artwork that implies a feature your app does not have. Review long words and translated copy with the same care as the English version.
For video, watch a complete loop with sound off. The main idea should be clear without narration. Pay attention to the join between the final frame and the first one, especially when repeating a short source clip.
Keep the original screenshots and the editable project backup with your exports. A technically valid file can still need a creative revision, and a local export cannot guarantee Apple acceptance. Your final check belongs in App Store Connect.
Put the idea on a canvas.
Start with a template, add your real app, and review both placements.
